Transport

FREE TRANSPORT

Free Transport around the village will be available on the day. The public transport on the day will involve two separate buses, one from Marple Bridge to the Devonshire , and a service which will run up and down Church Road to the Parish Centre. It will operate on a "hail and ride" basis , stopping at convenient points along Longhurst Lane. The availability of further buses to Mill Brow is planned.

CAR PARKING

Do be prepared for walking as parking can be difficult - please be considerate and do not park on narrow lanes. The largest car park is at the Parish centre, beside Mellor Church, where an extra field will be available.

Please note that Townscliffe Lane is very narrow and should not be used for parking or driving. sections of Longhurst Lane and Moor End Road are also unsuitable for parking.

MELLOR WALKING ROUTES

The footpaths in Mellor provide delightful country walks with magnificent views of the hills. Enjoy them if it is a fine day! The most useful paths for visiting the gardens will be shown in a map which can be found in our admission programme.

GETTING TO MELLOR

By Car

Mellor is situated to the east of Marple Bridge which is reached from the A626 Stockport to Glossop road. It must be emphasised that there is a single road through Mellor which in places is extremely narrow and to help avoid congestion on the day please park if possible at the designated car parks at Mellor Parish centre or alternatively in Marple Bridge where there are a number of car parks and take advantage of the free transport to and around the village.

If you want to plan your journey then you can use this link to the useful AA route planner here.

By Bus

Marple Bridge is served by a number of bus routes especially the 384 and 383 from Stockport. Access timetables at the GMPTE web site here. Since 2008, Stagecoach have reinstated the Sunday service of the local 375 bus which runs from Rose Hill Station , around Marple and through Mellor.

By Train

Marple Bridge is normally served by excellent train services from Manchester and Sheffield but we would advise you to check availability as Sunday Services can be limited.
